Getting my behind in gear & READING!
Ok, I'm finally moving along (things never seem to pan out as planned!) and reading Outlander for the read-a-long. I was supposed to blog this yesterday, but my #2 kiddo was graduating High School, so I figure there's no foul! It feels pretty good holding a book in my hands again, at least for more than the usual 5-10 minutes during the school year...
Ready..............Set...............GO!
Now down to the nitty gritty of week #1's questions:
1. Outlander is a well-known book. Before you cracked it open, what were your expectations or assumptions about this story? Or did you jump into it with a blank slate?
Well, this isn't the first time I've read it. I guess, thinking back to the first time, all I needed to hear was 'Scotland', 'Kilts' & 'Historical Romance'. Can you say 'Yes please?'!!
2. Claire’s husband, Frank, is fascinated with learning more and more facts about his family tree, which extends back pretty far. Do you or anyone in your family keep a family tree? How many years/generations back does it go? If not, have you ever considered or attempted to create one?
I LOVE learning about family history! My mother's family can date their roots all the way back to the Mayflower & my father's family has a pretty colorful history (let's just say there was some horse rustling & hangings- yikes!). I'd really like to go back more extensively on my husband's side. I've only gone back a couple of generations.
3. How did you find Claire’s initial conclusion as to her surroundings after waking up from going through the stones? Did you think that was a reasonable conclusion?
It was the most logical assumption to make I guess. I mean, I've had some pretty realistic dreams. I've heard the ocean or smelled flowers, but I haven't exactly TOUCHED anything & really felt it (at least I can't remember it, lol). It wasn't like she was in a re-enactment or something. It sure as heck wouldn't extend THAT far!
4. How about her composed, rational way of dealing with the fact she’s traveled back in time. Did you find it believable? Do you think you would have acted the same way?
Really, how else should she have handled it? She was a combat nurse and had to make quick, logical decisions in the field. As far as believable, we all view things in a different light. Sometimes, it's not 'is it believable' but 'what do you WANT to believe'. I probably would have run for the nearest hut and curled up into the fetal position!
5. At this point in the story, what are your feelings or expectations on Claire and Jamie? Is Frank still a factor for you?
Naturally, I want Jamie & Claire to be together because I want to be with Jamie, lol! I feel that they should be able to have that connection, to fully share their lives. Conversely, I feel (as a wife) that once you are married, you are MARRIED & unless there is a widow factor or divorce, ones P's & Q's should be watched...quite the conundrum I know!
Bonus Question: Frank encounters a man outside of the inn where he and Claire are staying. He is afraid it might have been a ghost. What do you believe it was? Do you have any predictions or suspicions on what that was about?
Ghost schmost! At this point, who else could it be? As far as predictions...let me see. It's been a while since I read this, so I've got a ton of books swirling around in my head. I've got my suspicions, but why give it all away? ;o)
The hubby is up & getting ready for work- I guess I better wrap this up and go to bed! I'm looking forward to round #2 next Monday. So, until we meet again, keep the kids out of the flowerbed & the books in your hand!
